Space Rebels

GS6 With Glimmeria University set to graduate, Professor Avery admits that he is indeed the son of Adam Michaels. His guest speaker? None other than an old man claiming to be the infamous Dalton James. To hell with cookie cutter advice. Dalton plans to leave these young adults with the story of a lifetime. A story of the Space RebelsPlease note. This book takes places after both the Gunship Original 5 and the Fleet series. This book was written at the request of several hardcore Gunship fans.

Did we really put a man on the moon? Is it football or soccer? Where will fan-favorite Dalton James strike next? These are the three most commonly asked questions worldwide – Google it.

I have big plans for my infamous gunslinger, though it may be a little different than what readers are used to. Following the conclusion of REDD 2 (in which Dalton appears), our friend will find himself pursuing a destiny filled with horror, mystery, and adventure. Don’t worry, he’s sure to find whiskey, too.

Based in the fictional town of Arkham, Pennsylvania, peculiar “sightings” are the norm. Enter Dalton James’ destiny. As constable of Arkham, which has kept to itself for hundreds of years due to Amish faith, he will combat creatures of the night at every turn.

Five years ago, I would have never believed that I’d be outlining a series that included elements of horror, an Amish town, and our favorite science fiction hero. That said, I am very excited about this project. It’s a breath of fresh air and, I suspect, Dalton feels the same way.

Three New (Free) Books!

atlantis newcover1LH GhostPlanetCoverFINAL

This morning I added three more free books to the mix! Why free? I try to offer as much as I can for free, while still selling enough writing to put food on the table. Some authors are against giving away their work and I totally respect that. However, my name isn’t Stephen King or R.A. Salvatore. I need new readers to discover my work and should they enjoy it, I have plenty more available.

As always, I’d love to see you download the books, love ’em and leave an honest book review on Amazon. My growling stomach will thank you.

Welcome to 25K

This week my blog hit 25,000 views. I didn’t exactly join some elite group of rich authors. In fact, I’m still pretty poor. Most of us full-time creative types are. I always imagined that I’d be parking Porsche 911 cars in a garage by now (for the sake of collecting). Yet here I am, sitting in my pajamas and thinking about making a trip to the bookstore.

But this has given me some time to think about all of the changes my blog has seen. Let me throw a few photos up.

I’ve been writing (full-time) for right at 5 years now. What I’ve learned is this isn’t about making money. This whole, wonderful experience is about the experience itself. I’ve met fantastic people. My friend Amanda, for example, is a professional actress/model and graciously bailed me out on my very first book with cover art. She even went so far as to sign photo flats, allowing me to send them out to readers. Or Scott, who is a pretty awesome guy. He’s also Adam Michaels of the Gunship series and I actually remember what his wife cooked that night. Great memory. Or my editor, who I call “D” in emails. Why? Because I’m too lazy to write out his name, honestly. He should know… he quickly became my editor and now he knows all of my bad habits. He’s also a good friend and, at times, a therapist. I also remember the first time a brick and mortar bookstore had Gunship in stock. Go Roanoke, Virgina!

While I hoped to have a Porsche by now, I’m actually much happier without one. I get to take the stories inside of my head, put them to paper and people actually buy/read them. How fantastic is that? So this post isn’t just about hitting 25K views – this post is about all of you. Yes I read the emails. And yes, I see your tweets. You folks are awesome and I owe every ounce of success I have to you. Thanks a million! Here’s to plenty more years of writing!

Zombie love.

What does a group of travelers, a roadside diner just outside of Charlotte and Thursday afternoon have in common? A viral outbreak of the undead, of course! My brand new series DEAD is currently underway and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic tale of gut-munching goodness.

What separates my story from the stacks of others in a genre that’s been done to death (HA!)? Occasionally, among the rots will be an alpha version and they have the ability to reason. Moreover, they’re damn tough to kill and find sport in hunting down human survivors.

DEAD will officially launch on 1/1/2017. Sure, the first book will be done sooner but I want to roll this one out right. It’ll arrive in eBook, paperback, and I also plan to offer signed prints along with the release. This series is my final series as an author. Does that mean I’m giving it up? Absolutely not. But from this point forward I’m a zombie author and this story is my playground until the day I die. Unless I come back as an alpha, in which case I may continue writing. -jd
